OUR HISTORY

Upper Mohawk, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Ken Barnes, a Mohawk from the Six Nations Reserve in Canada. Ken established the company with a commitment to responsive service, strong customer relationships, and dependable performance.

His wife, Pat Barnes, joined UMI in 1998, bringing experience in training, organizational development, strategic planning, and business operations. Pat is of Comanche heritage through her mother, and her father retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. Together, Ken and Pat brought a shared respect for Native American heritage, military service, community, and personal responsibility to the company.

Upper Mohawk began as a commercial information-technology company and expanded into government contracting, professional training, financial services, administrative support, and program management. Over the years, UMI built a record of supporting government and commercial customers on assignments requiring accuracy, accountability, technical expertise, and consistent performance.

In 2018, Pat became the owner of Upper Mohawk and began leading the company into its next chapter. Today, UMI remains grounded in the values that shaped its beginning: integrity, service, accountability, adaptability, and respect for people.
