The DoD Mentor-Protégé (MP) Program was enacted in 1990 (Public Law 101-510) under the direction of former Senator Sam Nunn and Secretary of Defense William Perry. This program was established to provide incentives for (major) DoD prime contractors (Mentors) to help small disadvantaged businesses (SDBs), qualified organizations that employ the severely disabled, and women-owned small businesses (Protégés) develop technical and business capabilities. The goal of the program is to assist protégés to successfully compete for prime contract and subcontract awards. Successful Mentor-Protégé agreements provide a winning relationship for the protégé, the mentor and the DoD.

In 2003 UMI and NGST won the prestigious Nunn-Perry Award, which was first awarded in 1995 to recognize outstanding Mentor-Protégé teams formed under the auspices of the DoD Mentor-Protégé program. All eligible nominations are reviewed and numerically scored by a review panel. The composition of the panel is at the discretion of the DoD D

The panel may consider other pertinent information regarding the particular Mentor-Protégé agreement. The review panel presents their nominations in order of ranking to the DoD Director, OSADBU, for consideration for award. The number of awards is at the discretion of the Department of Defense.

Upper Mohawk, Inc. helped to complete a comprehensive assessment of all funding streams and processes used to allocate and distribute these important funds, leading to four quality recommendations for process improvement.

Since 2002, Upper Mohawk, Inc. has worked to help return funds held in Special Deposit Accounts (SDAs) to their rightful owners. These efforts include researching the ownership of SDAs through searches of land transactions, individual Indian money accounts, and historical data and analyzing past distribution and tribial litigation efforts
Since 2002, Upper Mohawk, Inc. has worked to help return funds held in Special Deposit Accounts (SDAs) to their rightful owners. These efforts include researching the ownership of SDAs through searches of land transactions, individual Indian money accounts, and historical data and analyzing past distribution and tribial litigation efforts. By the end of the contract, we exceeded the agency’s goals for SDA and Youpee account distribution by 300%.

Upper Mohawk, Inc. assisted GE Aviation, a leader in jet engine manufacturer for the military, with cost and termination proposals and audits of tools, causing the government to lower the government’s long standing risk assessment of GE Aviation’s proposal analysis efforts from high to medium, the lowest rating available for negotiated procurements.

We developed a Conservation video course for the Haskell Indian Nations University. It was designed to be used by an instructor in the classroom or online. Additionally, we worked in tandem with the OTR trainers to present instruction on records management and facilitation services in several U.S. locations.

UMI presented an 8-10 day medical training program in Alaska, California, Arizona, and Minnesota. This included First Responder training, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator instruction, and 24-hour Community Emergency Response training.
